Tequila isn’t just a drink at The Rio—it’s part of our story. That’s why we take it one step further with our in-house barrel-aging process!

Barrel-Aging Tequila: The Process

It all starts with small oak barrels, charred on the inside to achieve the perfect flavor profile. We age Jose Cuervo Tradicional Reposado Tequila for a minimum of four weeks to deepen its character.

During this time, the tequila develops a smoother, more complex flavor and darkens in color as the wood imparts its unique notes. To ensure the highest quality tequila every time, we monitor, taste, and turn the barrels weekly. The price of this craft? A significant portion of the tequila evaporates during aging—but what remains is worth it.

A Taste Unlike Any Other

This special barrel-aged tequila finds its perfect home in our Barrel-Aged Big Tex Margarita. Its smoothness and complexity create a cocktail every margarita or tequila lover needs to experience.
